Understanding risk. Supporting informed choices.

All surgery carries risk. Individual assessment, clear information and time for questions are essential parts of discussing whether a procedure is appropriate for you.

Safety informs the discussion.

Your surgeon will discuss the risks of surgery in the context of your health, the planned procedure and alternative options. General information cannot predict an individual outcome or replace a consultation.

All KPAS surgeons hold current Specialist registration and FRACS in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. They practise within the clinical and ethical standards required of that registration.

Surgery involves risk and individual results vary. This page is a general summary, not a substitute for discussing your circumstances with your treating surgeon.

Before proceeding

Three important conversations.

Individual assessment

Your health, anatomy, medical history and goals inform the consultation. Recommendations are considered in relation to your individual circumstances.

Risks and alternatives

Discuss the potential benefits, limitations, risks, recovery and alternatives relevant to the procedure being considered. Ask your surgeon about anything that is unclear.

Informed consent

A structured informed consent process is followed, with time for questions before surgery proceeds. Understanding the information is part of making your decision.

Clinic and hospital

Different settings for different stages.

The West Perth clinic is the setting for consultations and follow-up appointments. Surgery is performed in accredited hospital facilities with appropriate anaesthetic, nursing and post-operative support.

Your surgeon will discuss the hospital and follow-up arrangements relevant to your care. Confirm these details with your treating team as part of your preparation.

Questions for your surgeon

Make sure you understand the plan.

  • What are the relevant risks and limitations in my circumstances?
  • What alternatives should I consider?
  • Where would surgery take place, if I proceed?
  • What should I understand about recovery and follow-up?
  • Who should I contact with concerns before or after surgery?
Further information

Before making a decision.

Can a result be guaranteed?

No. Surgery carries risk and individual results vary. Your surgeon will discuss expected outcomes and limitations in relation to your circumstances.

Where can I find the surgeons’ qualifications?

Our surgeon profiles list qualifications and clinical interests. You can also check practitioner registration through the AHPRA register.

What if I still have questions after consultation?

Contact your treating team to clarify the information. Our approach allows time for questions and reflection, and a further consultation can be arranged where helpful.
