PATIENT JOURNEY · WEST PERTH

Your first consultation. Time to understand your options.

A specialist consultation is a discussion about your concerns, health and goals. It helps you understand whether an option may be appropriate, including the choice not to have surgery.

01 / Your First Consultation

Before your appointment

When you enquire, ask the KPAS team about appointment availability, the consultation fee and what information they need beforehand. Tell the team if you need an interpreter, accessibility support or are travelling from outside Perth.

02 / Your First Consultation

What to bring

  • Your referral and any relevant medical reports or imaging requested by the clinic.
  • A current list of medicines and supplements, allergies, previous operations and relevant health conditions.
  • Questions about the changes you are considering, your expectations and any concerns.
  • Details of practical commitments such as work, caring responsibilities, support at home or travel.

Ask in advance about bringing a support person. Be open about your medical history so that your surgeon can make an informed assessment.

03 / Your First Consultation

What you will discuss

Your surgeon will explore your concerns and expectations alongside your medical history and examination findings. Ask which options may be suitable, their limitations and what a decision not to proceed would mean. Clinical photography or further assessment may be discussed where relevant.

  • What can this procedure reasonably change, and what can it not change?
  • What risks are particularly relevant to my health and circumstances?
  • Are there non-surgical alternatives, or reasons to wait or not proceed?
  • What care, practical support and follow-up would I need?
04 / Your First Consultation

After the consultation

Take time to consider the discussion and note any questions that arise afterwards. Ask for written information and an individual estimate of fees where treatment is being considered. Further consultation or assessment may be needed before a plan can be agreed.

Adult cosmetic surgery involves at least two pre-operative consultations, with at least one in person with the operating surgeon. Consent is not requested at the first consultation. The required cooling-off period is explained in our risks and informed consent guide.

Consultation questions

Will I be given a surgery date immediately?

Assessment, informed consent and applicable waiting requirements come first. Ask the team about the sequence for your proposed care before making work or travel commitments.

What if I am unsure which procedure I need?

Describe your concerns rather than trying to choose a procedure in advance. Your surgeon can discuss suitability, limitations and alternatives.
